The Epic of Gilgamesh Study Guide
The Epic of Gilgamesh is the world's oldest epic and as such deserves to be part of any complete study of the ancient world. As ancient Sumerian literature, it establishes many of the literary tropes and motifs of the world's great works. The following guide provides study notes based upon the Charlotte Mason Approach of reading, reasoning, relating and recording, in order to truly appreciate great works of literature. Notes are provided for two editions–an elementary edition and a high school edition: Gilgamesh the Hero by Geraldine McCaughrean is suitable for elementary students not younger than third or fourth grade and Gilgamesh: A New Rendering in English Verse by David Ferry is suitable for high school level with parent/teacher supervision. This comprehensive study includes background information on Ancient Sumer, literary analysis, vocabulary, writing prompts, map work, helpful websites, and a thorough introduction to the Heroic Quest. Each set of study notes contains 12 lessons and can be completed in a 2-3 week period. Please check to make sure you have 3 MB of memory for download.
