We have completed the primary readers lessons and are about half way through the intermediate reader lessons. I have preschoolers all the way up to 5th graders and have so far been able to read all the books (in the lessons) with them all together as a family. Overall the books have been really well thought out and we end up having deep, thought provoking questions/discussions over each book. All of the kids have participated according to their ability and have loved all the books. The only book we weren’t particularly fond of was The Seven Silly Eaters. Their favorites so far have been Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge by Mem Fox and The Hundred Dresses by Elenor Estes. The discussions and heart changes that happened after these two books were beautiful. Highly recommend this study!

I was very excited to receive this book. I was raised on BF books and I wanted to much to love this one. I have waited over two years to write this review because I thought maybe my feelings towards it might change, but they have not and maybe this review might help someone else. This book is 1 part Read Aloud Revival, 1 part Five in a Row, and 1 part Honey for a Child's Heart. Thankfully, the book is only $20 because it is a glorified book list. Of the 131 books listed in the Primary Lessons, only 12 have actual lessons (each with 1-6 questions). Of the 116 recommended Intermediate books, 13 are studied in 50 lessons (each with 1-6 questions). For example: Lesson 5, 10, 15, 18, 26, and 42: "Read Fables by Arnold Lobel (misspelled Label in two places in the book) and discuss the moral at the end of the tale." That seems a little unoriginal. We didn't like several of the selections. When God Made You prompted a quick talk about going off with creepy strangers. I am glad that you included a book with diversity, but we all found that one sketchy. Where were the little girl's parents and who was that strange man? One last thing I will mention is that The Green Ember did not call to mind C.S. Lewis. It is too wordy, descriptive, and poorly written to be mentioned in the same sentence as Lewis. A fun adventure story, maybe, but my husband and I both could not get through it as a read aloud. The Swallows and Amazons or The Princess and the Goblin are some of our favorites, but please don't disappoint us by calling Smith a Lewis.

So far we have really loved the books we have read. I will say there are a few books that are geared toward specific genders however I have a boy and girls so for our family that worked out well that I bought all the books. I will not have my girls read "The Whipping Boy" or "The Happy Prince" or "The Little Prince". As a girl myself I would not have wanted to read those as a child. As for my son, he will not be reading "The Hundred Dresses" or "A Gathering of Days" but otherwise we have loved this as much as the Elementary study.

This study is EXCELLENT. Highly recommend it. I divided it into seasons and we loved reading the books in that order. I also included the Obadiah trio with the Early American History study we did with BF books and it fit perfectly. I have 2 younger children still to come and can't wait to do this with them again someday.

An impressive selection of titles and authors, with one caveat. I skipped the Matthew Paul Turner title. He’s straight out of the progressive Christian camp, and the storyline that involved the little girl leaving her house alone and taking up with some random artist in the park wasn’t something I felt great about. I subbed in God’s Very Good Idea, which picks up the same theme of diversity in God’s family.

I'm so very grateful to have discovered this reading pack! We love the included books. My daughter asks to read them again and again. The guide contains more wonderful suggestions for favorite children's books and the study notes are perfect for diving deeper into the lessons each book contains. I love the book lists, the layout of the lessons using picture books and Bible references. However, I bought it to use with my primary age kids and was disappointed to find there were only 13 lessons for that age. I wish that was listed in the description for the product. Just as a note, there are 50 lessons for intermediate.

We started with the Teaching Character guide when my oldest was in 1st grade and absolutely loved it. This year, his 4th grade year, I thought it would be nice to read the books that go along with Teaching Character for the older children and was pleasantly surprised that I had what I needed already! Reading the books suggested in this guide is my absolute favorite part of our homeschool day (I think the same goes for my son). They are wonderful, rich stories that I think will stay with my boys for a lifetime. I thought they would scoff at a book entitled “The Hundred Dresses.” Instead, my 9 year old son said “do we own this book? We should!” I check most of the selections out from the library but I must admit, these books are treasures and I kind of wish I had bought the literature packs made available by BF. My younger son is now in 1st grade and I look forward to going back and reading the selections for the younger children all over again with him. Other than this guide, we also own the Around the World with Picture Books guide from BF and I can say with certainty that their guides and literature packs are a wonderful addition to any homeschool family. I’m ready to buy the US History pack next!

We just received our Character through Literature study guide and love it! It's exactly what it says it is, a guide. There are wonderful authors and book titles listed and several sample lessons that will help guide your character study. Scripture is paired with the sample lessons which is another piece I really appreciate.

I'm very pleased with the quality and value of the Character Through Literature study guide! It's a bonus to have the elementary and intermediate grades in one book to cover a range of ages. I also appreciate the list of other authors, in addition to the suggested books. Character Education is too often overlooked, thank you for creating a product that helps teach this critical component!

The study guide addresses multiple age groups, and is a great resource for finding high quality books. My kids and I have enjoyed using it, and we will revisit it often as they grow.

Teaching Character Through Literature was my first experience with BFB. It was part of my introduction to "doing school differently." It helped build my confidence as the teacher to be able to explore literature with our kids and it sparked an interest in other BFB products!!

I'm so excited to do the geography and character studies with my children this year. The character study guide is well laid out and gives such thought-provoking questions. I also love the fact that there are lots of extra suggested titles for us to explore. I also bought the D'Aulaire biography set...I've had my eye on those a long while!! This is gonna be a great year!

I was very happy to receive our package. It was so exciting to preview the books before starting them with my daughter. The art work is amazing in these books and it adds so much life to the stories. My daughter (first grade) was so excited. After reading the teachers guide I started a list of other books to great. I love that there are so many recommendations. After reading several of the books, I asked a few questions that I had gotten from the study guide it really helped to make the reading more meaningful. I can't wait to read the rest of the books and share them with my children.

We love Beautiful Feet Teaching Character Through Literature. Wonderful book lists, and author lists - divided into Primary and Intermediate age groups. The study guide would be awesome for the book lists alone. But the lesson guides are really what makes the study guide AMAZING. There are lesson guides for both the Primary and Intermediate levels, and each lesson includes a reading assignment and a couple of questions. These aren't simple comprehension questions, these are reflective questions designed to get your student thinking not only about what he or she read but how it can apply to our their lives too. This is the first study guide we have used, and it has sold me on Beautiful Feet guides. We are now planning to do History of the Horse over the summer and start Ancient History in the Fall.

Last summer I was looking for a way to teach my children (ages 3 and 5) about being people of godly character. This BFB all inclusive package was exactly what I was looking for. I love seeing my kids discover the world through literature. The lessons were easy to follow and a great length to keep the attention of my littles. I really enjoyed the inclusion of scripture in many lessons. All the books were captivating, but in particular we were drawn to A Time of Wonder and The Courage of Sarah Noble. The best part is that we can pick it up and repeat in a couple years! Thanks BFB for the easy to use package! We loved it.

I purchased this guide to help us explore quality books that would take us through character qualities without feeling over the top. This is such a gentle guide with such beautifully chosen literature! We are loving it!

I've been using Teaching Character Through Literature with my seven and nine-year-old girls for the past year and we're all very much enjoying it! The books that the study guide uses are wonderful and the character traits that are discussed are ones that our family truly values. The scriptures referenced in the guide offer another component that we appreciate.

We have enjoyed the early primary character study this year with my 7 & 8 year old. Not only were they fabulous books to read, but it was also an easy, open and go program. It was just what we needed have a good discussion without being overbearing or a lecture on behavior. We are about to start the primary early American study next, but we will probably do it over 2 years since we also do the Ambleside Online curriculum.

I bought the guide at a recent convention and am overwhelmed by the combination of simplicity and quality. The book lists are amazing and the lessons are perfect for small kids. Too many "lit guides" ask artificial and contrived questions, which lead the parent-educator away from the organic discussions about books we all envision. On the other hand, I didn't feel confident enough to have these discussions without a guide. Beautiful Feet is the perfect solution.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to order this literature pack because I didn't feel like I needed a study guide to tell me how to "teach" certain character traits to my children. I went ahead and purchased it simply because of the quality of literature that is included. My children have enjoyed each story so much. Thanks so much to BFB! These books continue to be ones they pull off of the shelves to read by themselves or for me to read aloud. You cannot go wrong with ordering any of the BFB literature packs!

I purchased this set when my oldest was 5 years old and we have been working through it. The stories are wonderful children's literature with a real purpose to the story instead of the to often read "twadle". The teacher guide is well laid out with questions for pondering and it really helps with helping me as the parent direct the discussion with my children in building good God honoring character.
