Teaching Character Through Literature is a beautifully designed Christian homeschool character education curriculum for K-3 students that helps parents and educators nurture moral and spiritual growth through the power of story. This character development study is rooted in carefully chosen picture books and structured around the fruits of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

Research shows that the right stories—when paired with meaningful questions—can significantly support the development of compassion, the ability to imagine other perspectives, and emotional intelligence in children. This curriculum applies those insights with intentional read-alouds, thoughtful discussion prompts, and activities designed to bring these values to life in your family through everyday practice and connection.

Created specifically for homeschooling families with kids in elementary school, Teaching Character Through Literature includes a downloadable teacher guide with both digital and printer-friendly formats, making it flexible and easy to use. Each unit pairs timeless children’s literature with Scripture readings, guided conversations, and hands-on activities that make abstract character traits feel real, memorable, and relevant to daily life.

Unlike character education programs built for classroom settings, this curriculum is designed for the rhythm of a homeschooling family. The lessons are faith-integrated, literature-centered, and built around meaningful conversation rather than worksheets. Whether you are new to homeschooling or looking for a values-based study to add to your morning basket, Teaching Character provides everything you need to teach good character at home in a lasting way.

With a gentle rhythm and an emphasis on beauty, reflection, and relationship, this curriculum turns storytime into a rich, faith-based foundation for moral and emotional growth. Whether you're new to homeschooling or looking for a values-based resource, this study offers everything you need to teach character at home in a meaningful and lasting way.

I wanted a Charlotte Mason style home education but didn’t know where to begin…

Beautiful Feet Books is an answer to prayer. I had read a book,“ For the Children’s Sake,” and wanted this style of home education, but I had no idea how to curate a list of high quality books that would fit a common end. There’s simply too many books to choose from! And then craft thought-provoking and heart seeking questions…and this is exactly what BFB has done! I have often been disappointed by secular library books just falling short in every department compared to the truths of the gospel, but BFB has done a seamless job in integrating gospel truth into every book we read, even it’s not an explicitly Christian book. We are able to trace themes, discuss both positive and negative character examples, and then live these things out in practical, thoughtful, creative, and service-style ways. Head, heart and hands. What’s great is that even my husband has become a part of our character homeschool lessons. The discussions are engaging for the whole family and I truly feel this is the best way to character formation and true education. I have already gone ahead to purchase the early American history curriculum and I’m excited for learning history through living books and real stories, all the while keeping our biblical framework at the forefront.

Incorporates the Bible!!!

Your character course utilized more scripture and referenced more Biblical concepts than I have you credit for. I was quite impressed as I read through the Teacher's Guide . . . Looking forward to getting the books to go with it.

Much needed update done beautifully.

I own the first version of Teaching Character Through Literature, and I am so excited to have this version now! The first (blue) version is mostly a reading list, and their "lessons" were a short reading followed by 3-4 discussion questions. That really didn't add much value for us since we do that anyway. This version though, WOW! It is so much more usable and each lesson has been fully thought out. I can't wait to add this to our family loop this year!
