Newbery Honor Book 1959
Steele’s Newbery Honor title chronicles the tale of Chris Brabson, a young man who lives in Tennessee’s mountain country and sides with the Confederates. Shockingly, Chris’s older brother Jethro joins the Union army as a soldier. As Chris begins to search for his older brother he realizes the Union soldiers are no different than the Confederate troops he fights alongside. A look at the human element of war and the bonds enemies sometimes share.
