This American history homeschool curriculum for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade takes students on a journey through the modern era, using carefully curated books to illuminate the most pivotal events in our nation’s history. This explores the Civil War, Reconstruction, the turn of the century, both World Wars, the Dust Bowl, suffrage movement, Civil Rights era, Korean War, Vietnam War, 9/11, and contemporary America.

Through impactful literature, students gain a window into our country’s past and will come to appreciate the triumphs and trials of the 20th and early-21st century. Students will engage with critical thinking questions, the included timeline, hands-on activities, and historical recipes that bring history to life while teaching practical skills. Rabbit Trails and online resources offer opportunities for diving deeper, while mapping activities help students understand how geography shaped our nation’s development. The teacher guide makes it easy to lead meaningful lessons and foster in-depth discussions that bring connection and initiate conversation about family values.

This social studies course encourages students to see the connections between history, culture, and the development of our world. A strong foundation in American history equips children with the knowledge and perspective needed to thoughtfully engage with our country’s present and future.

Lessons in our studies are designed to be flexible, allowing families to tailor activities and pace to meet the needs of their students.

This is the perfect follow-up to those who have already completed our Early American Intermediate course.

Love Beautiful Feet curriculum in general

Love Beautiful Feet curriculum in general, we have been using it for history for the last 5 yrs and it has been such a wonderful learning experience! This medieval pack does not disappoint! The teacher guide is not only beautifully done it has everything you need. I love all the required reading selections as well as rabbit trail suggestions. The additional links for activities, and research are like gold! My kids and I can’t wait to dive into this rich stud in our up coming school yr!

Best BFB We Have Used So Far

We are halfway through our guide for Modern American and World History. My boys, grades 8 and 5, enjoy the reading and usually request to keep going. We have wonderful discussion guided by the questions. I am so grateful for the vocabulary words and the writing assignments which take this curriculum to an entirely new level. We highly recommend this curriculum.

I really do love Beautiful Feet Books curriculum. This was a great set but I wish I had split it into 2 years instead of 1. There were days we were reading for over an hour, and my kids would just get lost because it was so much. Great literature choices, but it would have been better to take it in at a slower pace, in my opinion.

I used this guide for my advanced 5th grader. It was perfect. He read most of the books to himself by I also read them because they were very interesting and I wanted to be able to be part of the conversation with him. I’m a long time BF fan and this guide did not disappoint. They book selection was perfect, sparking a lot of discussions on various topics. I do recommend to read with your student Frederick Douglas’s book as it’s a very important topic and so much conversation will come out of it. I feel like everything, every important topic, every important person, every conflict and war were cover meticulously in this guide. I’m very glad we used it.

My kids loved studying American history and they really enjoyed the living books! This is how I wish I could have learned history when I was younger.

We did history 3x/week and didn't finish this one (we usually don't finish BF programs in one year if only 2-3 times/week). We're going to finish up this year before we start medieval. Lots of wonderful books with this study guide!

This is an excellent course that I and my children (ages 12 and 13) absolutely loved! The books are so enjoyable that my kids often begged me to read ahead. The stories are so moving and memorable that I was learning right along with my kids. A year later, and we still reference things we learned from this course in our conversations. This was the first time we'd done a literature-based history course and we are hooked!

We have Modern American and World History here and ready to go for next fall. The book selections are terrific! We are really excited to dig into this section of history! The teacher's guide has great thought provoking questions. Great for conversations about the readings. Really looking forward to this study with my rising 7th grader.

My 5th grader completed this study this year. Well, she completed most of it and we're finishing the books this summer. There are a LOT of wonderful books in this study that she enjoyed, but in order to finish in one year, there is a LOT of reading. My daughter isn't a particularly fast reader, although she enjoys reading, so it was a struggle in that department. I would suggest planning to complete this in 2 years rather than 1. That would fit the Charlotte Mason philosophy better as well, since it would give children the opportunity to absorb the story a bit more over a longer period of time, rather than just checking another one off the list. Overall though, I still give five stars because the literature selections and extra websites etc are wonderful.
