Introduce your student to the vibrant geography and diverse ecosystems of the United States with this engaging U.S. geography curriculum designed for Kindergarten through 3rd grade. This early elementary resource blends meaningful lessons, colorful maps, and hands-on activities to build foundational geography and social studies skills through memorable, real-world exploration.

At the heart of this program are carefully chosen living books that help children form emotional and intellectual connections with the people and places across our country. These narratives nurture character, sympathy, and curiosity as students learn about regional customs, landscapes, and ways of life from coast to coast.

Stories featuring a grandma who hiked the Appalachian Trail, a family moving west in a covered wagon and taking fruit trees to Oregon, Pony Express riders, and a boy from New York City who finds himself living in New Mexico will fascinate students, naturally drawing them into the study.

Young learners explore each region of the United States while developing essential map skills and geography concepts. Cultural exploration is woven throughout the study, with opportunities to make regional recipes and explore national parks and monuments. Families are encouraged to take learning into the world with field trip ideas, because we know learning happens everywhere.

Our beloved 18” x 24” maps for coloring and labeling add a hands-on, artistic element that reinforces geographic awareness through kinesthetic learning. Flexible instructions and optional activities help parents tailor the experience to their student’s learning style, interests, and pace.

Whether used as a core social studies course or alongside our Early American History study, this curriculum supports both academic and character growth for Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders, inspiring students to feel connected to the land, history, and people of the United States.

My son looks forward to Geography day every week. Some weeks we split it into a few days, and some weeks we devote an entire day to this subject as it easily includes, writing, history, reading, art and more. My son loves it and I do as well! I highly recommend!

My 5 and 8 year old have really enjoyed learning geography using this curriculum. Using the map to color the states that the stories are about is what my kids' favorite part is. It helps them "see" where the stories are taking place. We do not do the state books because my kids aren't interested in facts about each state, instead we watch videos about each state during lunch. This subject has been our favorite this year.

Our family does multiple BFB studies each year for the various ages of our children. We've used this company for years and will continue to do so - we LOVE BFB!! That being said, this one is really lacking compared to the others we've used. It is FULL of busy work, very light on literature and information on the states, and overall lacking. I have found myself having to do extensive planning beyond the guide to make this meaningful and impactful for my kids. It's taken us two years to get through it because I just don't want to do the work to make it work - I feel like it was a waste of money based on how much extra I'm having to pull in to add to it. The Our 50 States book is so busy and overstimulating - how you even use this as a read aloud is beyond me! The state pages are purely busy work. There is nothing meaningful to connect them to what you're learning...honestly this guide seems rushed and thrown together. If you're expecting something more along the lines of their Around the World in Picture Books, this is NOT it. You'll be very disappointed.

First, I am 49 year old mom and I can barely make out the text in the curriculum guide. It is beautiful but it needs young eyes! I would not buy another just based on that. I have a very reluctant student. She did not want to do the state pages and I did not make her. One book was missing and I didn't realize it for months. I found a lot to do in each lesson and it did not make a lot of sense to me. The definition writing was just a no go for my reluctant learner. We carried on through it but I didn't enjoy the format, the pacing of lessons, the busywork and the guide was so hard to read. Just not a fan. Will not be ordering from this company again. I can understand why other people like it, but don't be discouraged if it didn't work for you.

I've always been a fan of BF's guides and book recommendations, but this takes the cake! What a fun and engaging way to learn US Geography. Not only are the stories interesting and memborable, but the added recipes, recommendations for videos, and even the song have been perfect for my 1st and 3rd graders this year. I can't wait to do the intermediate version with them in a few years!
