Our Process
Four decades of experience have taught us a thing or two about creating curriculum that works. Here’s how we do it.
In this 7th–9th grade world geography and ecology curriculum, your student will explore the unique geography, ecosystems, and cultures of our planet through a literature-based, hands-on approach.
At the core of this curriculum are living books that immerse students in the stories of different cultures and global issues, fostering sympathy and character. Read about the division of India and Pakistan through the eyes of a girl living through one of the greatest human displacements in history. Partner with a boy trying to bring electricity to his village in Africa, and survive a winter in the Siberian Steppe with a girl who was exiled there during World War II. Learn about the people from the Caribbean Islands who built the Panama Canal, and venture into Antarctica with Ernest Shackleton’s historic expedition. Stories are the soul of this study, and this collection is unparalleled.
Each lesson incorporates geography topics like continents, oceans, biomes, and ecosystems. Students will understand physical geography, read maps, and analyze global environmental issues, discovering how local and global landscapes are interconnected.
Included is our beloved 18” x 24” world map for creative learning, where students label every country and add borders for newer nations like South Sudan and Kosovo. Critical thinking questions and 50+ hands-on activities explore ecosystems, soil health, pollution, biomes, and more.Students will experience cultural immersion through recipes, and online resources provide deeper exploration into the topics. The curriculum encourages real-world application and offers ideas for learning beyond the classroom.
This curriculum is suitable for homeschool settings, charter schools, or co-op groups, adapting to various teaching styles and pacing. Lessons are flexible, allowing families to tailor activities to meet the needs of their students.
By the end of the year, students will have developed lasting connections to world geography and ecology, while building skills to engage with the world’s diverse environments and communities.
