This brand-new teacher guide covers the mysterious and fascinating Ancient world, when humankind was making leaps and bounds as the written word was established, the wheel invented, and ziggurats and pyramids arose amid societies we usually think of as rudimentary.
Ninety-eight lessons will take your 5th-8th grader from the beginnings of civilization in Mesopotamia and Sumer, on to ancient Egypt, through the wanderings of the Jews and the splitting of the Israelites into the Kingdoms of Israel and Judah, to the cradle of democracy, ancient Greece, and into the rising Roman Empire and the birth of Christianity. From the ziggurats of Babylon to the first Christian churches in England, follow the drama of the human story. Our teacher guide provides the structure you want and the flexibility you need to successfully teach this complex time period.
Each section is built around engaging and historically accurate literature. Hands-on activities add depth to the history while vocabulary lists, comprehension questions, research topics, and web links make this both an academically strong study and one that will engage your entire family in stimulating discussions.

Sure! Here’s a polished and heartfelt review you can use for Beautiful Feet Books:
Beautiful Feet Books is absolutely our favorite curriculum.
We love it! All of my children are so engaged, and they are learning so much—including me! The stories spark meaningful conversations, and the gentle structure fits our family so well. We’re incredibly grateful for the work this team has poured into creating such a rich, comprehensive, and beautiful resource. It truly supports not only our learning but also the joy we share as a family on this homeschooling journey.
I'm really excited about teaching this curriculum to my child. It is beautifully laid out and has a variety of activities to support different learning styles. My only wish is that it was written more as a student-led, like the high school version.
Thankful that you included Story of the World as it’s an easy-to-understand chronological-story-form of history to read along with great literature!
Just what I was looking for to lead a history class for my co-op! I love that all the lesson plans are already laid out for me and that the literature based approach makes "homework" more like reading for a book club. I look forward to some great discussions and projects with my middle school co-op kids!
I was shocked by how much we loved this curriculum! Well, I should say.. shocked by how much this unit made me love ancient history! We've used BF for a few years now and their quality and engagement is unmatched! I guess I should have known better but coming from traditional schooling.. we never learned much about Ancient History. Gosh, this is why we love BF so much in our home!!! It makes history engaging and teaches so much more about history than is taught in standard textbooks and in SUCH a personal way. The material always sticks with both my son and myself. We were constantly looking forward to the stories and wondering what would happen next. Definitely recommend!!
Ancient History is our second year using Beautiful Feet Books for history and it encapsulated exactly what we loved from last year again. The books are beautiful and engaging, the curriculum is thorough and buildable which we love. We are excited to move on to Modern World History next year.
We ordered the Ancient History Intermediate pack a few months ago and have been enjoying it so much. My son loves map making and that is one of the first projects you begin. The Encyclopedia of The Ancient World is very helpful in providing a visual experience, as well as some web videos to go along with it, to help the students get a sense of how things were for people back then. The guide was done very well and I love how it is laid out by the area you are learning about. This is a well done study and I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn about the Ancients through literature.
I purchased this curriculum last year after a few weeks into the year when I realized what I had planned for ancient history was not going to be enough. The guide was thorough, detailed, and organized in a way that we were able to jump right in and start without much planning. I have one student at each level (MS and HS) so I was able to use one guide for both of them, which is a nice plus. They could discuss what they were learning together because they were both going at the same pace and reading about the same subjects. It was a life saver for this first year homeschool mom. We can't wait to work through the Medieval studies this year.
Beautiful Feet Ancient History: A Literature Approach is co-authored by homeschooling mother, Rea Berg and her daughter, homeschooling graduate Rebecca Manor. Beautiful Feet Ancient History is based on the teachings of British educator, Charlotte Mason as described in Susan Schaeffer Macaulay's book "For the Children's Sake."This Ancient history course is written for the intermediate grades 4th-6th and senior high grades 9th-12th. The study guide is divided into two parts. The first part is for the intermediate grade level, while the second part is for the senior high grade level. The scope of history covered is from the rise of civilization to the fall of Rome. The course outline is a follows: Part 1 The Rise of Civilization; Part 2 Ancient Egypt; Part 3 Ancient Greece; Part 4 Ancient Rome. The study guide also includes the Introduction: When Should I Teach Ancient History? by Rea Berg, How This Guide Is Used: Answers to frequently asked questions, Intermediate and Senior High Teacher’s Notes, Intermediate and Senior High Lesson Plans and Intermediate and Senior High Answer Keys. "Living books" such as “Tales of Ancient Egypt” by Roger Lancelyn Green, “ The Cat of Bubastes” by G.A. Henty, “ The Children’s Homer” by Padraic Colum, “Antony and Cleopatra” by William Shakespeare and “Augutus Caesar’s World” by Genevieve Foster are the backbone of the curriculum. Note booking is incorporated into each lesson, so at the end of the year your student will have a record of what they have studied. Beautiful Feet Books publishes an "Ancient History TimeLine" which I would highly recommend to accompany the student's note booking experience.Overall our family has been very pleased with Ancient History: A Literature Approach. In the future we look forward to continuing our study of World and American history with Beautiful Feet Books.
