Our Process
Four decades of experience have taught us a thing or two about creating curriculum that works. Here’s how we do it.
This study is designed to be an introductory course to world cultures and geography for the primary grade student through delightful children’s picture books. Along with award-winning literature, this course includes nature study, folktales, fables, music, art, poetry, and history. Gentle Socratic questions are designed to prompt discussion and discovery. Geographic elements include country maps and flags for students to cut out, paint or color, encouraging journaling of all the student is learning.
Each country visited features a selection of animals indigenous to those regions. These beautiful drawings will familiarize students with some remarkable creatures, their habitat and habits, cultivating respect and wonder for the natural world. Part One covers Asia, Africa, Australia, and Antarctica. In Asia we explore China, Japan, Thailand, and India. In Africa we visit Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ghana. Each country visited also includes a Library Connection, as well as History and Biography suggestions, so that teachers can expand the study with additional recommendations. Each chapter concludes with a fun foray into the cuisine of the country with recipes, photos, and links to create a memorable evening visiting unique culinary creations from around the world.
Study features 70 lessons and can be used in one semester or one year depending on pace. Complete 4 lessons per week for a semester study or 2 lessons per week for a year-long study.

The teacher’s guide is beautiful and is very easy to use. The accompanying picture books are rich and give a fantastic glimpse into the cultures and histories of countries around our world.
I love this curriculum! I have used it in some fashion for the past 6+ years. The book list alone is worth the price... Be prepared to learn alongside your kids and enjoy it SO MUCH!!
I am not a YouTuber or affiliate or anything of the sort, just a normal homeschool mama! I use this with my older three (9, 8, 6) and we absolutely LOVE it. There’s so many extra suggested deep dives that have been so full of rich information. I do think each family is unique and individual but even days or activities I thought “this won’t be very fun” we ended up loving. The Anno’s books really seemed terrible to me but my kids really enjoyed them! We ended up googling and YouTubing things we found interesting in the pictures. Make it your own, there is so much richness here without feeling like too much. We return to these resources again and again!
It provides the basic framework, library connections, biography/history suggestions, etc. But let's you lead! Plan on expanding on what you learn by using the MAP book and letting your kids pick things to learn more about. We use YouTube to see the scenery, learn more about "The Great Wall of China" etc., etc., and then to save money, we google the connection books for read-alouds over YouTube and purchase our favorites. It will require a little extra planning. Not quite open and go, but it is so fun! Currently a mom to 4, and also a sophomore in a K-6 elementary education degree program as my background. - The only thing so far I will mention is in the maps book there is one inappropriate (and small) image from the "love sauna". Honestly, this is something you could just white out, and it is cartoon, but I plan to cover it up. Plenty of people may not have noticed it. Still worth buying, but felt it necessary to mention it as a content caution. There are TONS of tiny images throughout the MAPS book, so again, this is very minute. But just in case you also feel the need to cover that image up. Enjoy the adventure!
This course is not complete and does not teach enough culture geography or much of anything about the different locations they are very surface level if that some of the books have no obvious connection to culture at least not for a young child to understand with out a deep explanation from an adult…. You would need to check out or buy every extra book for this curriculum to be even considered comprehensive….. for nearly $300 it’s not worth the cost and I will be going else where for history and geography
