About the Authors:

Rea Berg homeschooled her six children and it was her determination to teach history using quality literature rather than standard textbooks that inspired her to research what was available to accomplish that purpose. The result has been a series of History Through Literature Teacher guides all designed to acquaint the reader with the best children's literature available on the subject. Rea holds a Masters Degree in Children's Literature from The Center for the Study of Children's Literature, Simmons College in Boston.

Rebecca Manor, a homeschool graduate, loves story and art and remains in awe of their power to inspire a love of the good, the true, and the beautiful. She brings her studies of literature and theology, the many places she's called home, and a heart for homeschooling parents to the many teacher guides she has written for Beautiful Feet Books and strives to make teaching history, music, science, character, and literature accessible and joy-filled. Rebecca lives with her husband and their two sons in Fort Lauderdale where she is an adjunct professor at Knox Theological Seminary in their Christian and Classical Studies program, of which she is an alumna.

Well organized

We love that it’s learning history through wholesome books. The projects and “rabbit hole” trail offs of the sections are great ways to continue diving through the topics of interest. This is the first year we are using BFB and it’s great for all agaes!

Engaging, Conversation-Rich Learning Through Story

We’re partway through the Early American History for Grades 4–6 Teacher Guide, and I’m already so impressed. I love the literature-based approach—it invites meaningful conversations with my kids and encourages curiosity. The book selections are strong and well-chosen, and the format gives us the flexibility to move at our own pace without losing engagement. Even though we haven’t finished the unit yet, what I’ve seen so far has been thoughtful, enriching, and deeply enjoyable for our homeschool days.

Cultivate Character

The right books paired with the right questions build empathy. Our studies include impactful stories and questions that develop moral reasoning.

Learning, Everywhere

Our studies include ideas for taking your homeschool out of the home, because learning happens everywhere.

Critical Thinking

Our Socratic-style questions encourage students to explore perspectives and build critical thinking skills.
