Our Process
Four decades of experience have taught us a thing or two about creating curriculum that works. Here’s how we do it.
Engage your students in a dynamic Early American history curriculum designed for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade learners. This immersive course takes students beyond textbook summaries and into the lives, choices, and lasting impacts of the people who shaped civilizations around the world. Ideal for homeschool families, charter schools, and co-ops, this curriculum supports academic growth while fostering character development, life skills, and critical thinking.
Through carefully selected living books, students connect emotionally and intellectually with key historical events and people. These narrative-driven texts encourage meaningful reflection, making lessons memorable and personally relevant for students at this grade level.
Spanning from indigenous cultures to the early modern era, this course places social studies within a global context, exploring the rise and fall of empires, religious movements, political revolutions, and cultural shifts across the world. Students engage with history through primary sources, mapping activities, and hands-on projects that promote deeper comprehension and interactive learning.
Each lesson is adaptable, allowing families to tailor activities, materials, and pacing to meet the specific needs of their students. This flexible, full-year course helps students understand the world and their place in it, making it ideal for a comprehensive and engaging learning experience.

We love your literature approach to history!! Put together very well with options for enrichment if desired!!
It was a nice change from the standard "school" history. It focuses on learning about history...mistakes, accomplishments...and learning from those also. It's not about memorizing, but about understanding. That's what I look for when selecting homeschool curriculum. Some provided links do not work but I don't think we were missing out on a lot by not being able to access them. They still should be updated though.
This guide and the books that accompany the study make studying history engaging and very doable, too. It is perfect for jr. high level, but could easily be adapted for younger, and even slightly older students. Recommend!
I used this with my 9th grade son. This was our first time using a BF guide. We really enjoyed it! He moved kind of slowly when he read on his own, but when I read to him, he seemed to comprehend it better. This was really his first exposure to these types of books, so I think that was to be expected. He really enjoyed learning History this way. The guide includes lots of movie and extra literature tie-ins, but we didn't have time for any of those.
My 8th grader completed this course a few weeks ago. She reallyl enjoyed the study and found it to be just the right amount of work. She was able to do most of the work independently which we both really liked. She is looking forward to starting high school in the fall with Beautiful Feet.

“Using your studies brings peace to our days. I can teach everyone at once and they love it.”
“Rich conversations and deep connections – that’s why we’re homeschooling.”
