*Note This pack does NOT include A Child's First Book of American History.

This updated and expanded edition now covers a wider historical time period with new literature. Students will not only learn about the Civil War, Reconstruction, the turn of the century, both World Wars, Civil Rights, Korean War, Vietnam War, and contemporary America, they will also cover the Dust Bowl, the suffrage movement, and 9/11.

Additional historical background, Rabbit Trails (featuring book recommendations by section), and a customer-favorite in the Historic Table featuring historical recipes, this redesigned teacher guide will help parents easily reference resources to make teaching the course even more enjoyable.

The changes that came about in the twentieth century were unprecedented in history. From the very first global conflict to the development of the atomic bomb, modernization took on a pace that rapidly changed towns, cities, and individuals around the world. The resistance to tyranny in both worlds wars, in the civil rights movement, the Cold War, 9/11, and the war on terror, called forth heroism, sacrifice, and determination in men, women, and young people of good will to resist these forces. The struggle for equality, justice, and basic human rights continues today.

This is the perfect follow-up to those who have already completed our Early American Intermediate course.

This curriculum uses the second-half of A Child's First Book of American History by Earl Schenck Miers as well as a host of new and classic literature.

I really do love Beautiful Feet Books curriculum. This was a great set but I wish I had split it into 2 years instead of 1. There were days we were reading for over an hour, and my kids would just get lost because it was so much. Great literature choices, but it would have been better to take it in at a slower pace, in my opinion.

I used this guide for my advanced 5th grader. It was perfect. He read most of the books to himself by I also read them because they were very interesting and I wanted to be able to be part of the conversation with him. I’m a long time BF fan and this guide did not disappoint. They book selection was perfect, sparking a lot of discussions on various topics. I do recommend to read with your student Frederick Douglas’s book as it’s a very important topic and so much conversation will come out of it. I feel like everything, every important topic, every important person, every conflict and war were cover meticulously in this guide. I’m very glad we used it.

This is an excellent course that I and my children (ages 12 and 13) absolutely loved! The books are so enjoyable that my kids often begged me to read ahead. The stories are so moving and memorable that I was learning right along with my kids. A year later, and we still reference things we learned from this course in our conversations. This was the first time we'd done a literature-based history course and we are hooked!

We did history 3x/week and didn't finish this one (we usually don't finish BF programs in one year if only 2-3 times/week). We're going to finish up this year before we start medieval. Lots of wonderful books with this study guide!

My kids loved studying American history and they really enjoyed the living books! This is how I wish I could have learned history when I was younger.
