In this newly edited and expanded edition, children will learn not only the faithful saga of the Separatist's struggle for religious freedom, but also that young Rembrandt was just learning to walk when the Pilgrims arrived in Leiden, that Galileo was fighting his own battle for religious and scientific freedom, and that William Brewster served as clerk to Queen Elizabeth's secretary until the ill-fated execution of Elizabeth's half sister, Mary.

Historical figures from around the world will see the Pilgrim's heroic struggle in a more meaningful context. With whimsical illustrations by Christen Blechschmid, children and parents alike will see the world as the Pilgrims saw and lived it.

At first I didn’t thing my kids would be in to this book. It seems a little long just to be about pilgrims, however, they loved it! And really good news, I enjoyed reading it. They asked to read it and want me to continue with more chapters. We are learning about Holland which was a fun surprise for me. Somehow it’s just the perfect book.

I started reading this with my 6 year old in the evenings, and it is such a beautifully written story. I find myself reading ahead each night after he falls asleep. I love the detail and using the children as the main focus. So engaging!

I really enjoyed reading this book with my daughter. It helped us understand what life must have been like for the Pilgrims.

Mary, Queen Elizabeth's half sister, was not executed. She died of a stomach ailment.(Publisher's note) The book is referring to Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, not Mary I of England, or Bloody Mary. Mary, Queen of Scots was executed by Elizabeth for an assassination plot, while Bloody Mary succumed to influenza. The book errors in calling Mary, Queen of Scots, the half-sister of Elizabeth, she was actually her cousin.
