Our Process
Four decades of experience have taught us a thing or two about creating curriculum that works. Here’s how we do it.
A majestic mandarin duck, captured and caged by a greedy lord, longs for the freedom of the wild. When Yasuko, a humble kitchen maid, dares to set him free, she and a loyal one-eyed servant are sentenced to death. But the grateful duck has not forgotten their kindness. A moving Japanese folktale about compassion, courage, and loyalty.

This is a great book, and the Dillons are some of my very favorite illustrators (check out their other work too!). The ultimate message is strong, and the story line does keep you guessing (the end is not immediately obvious). The true strength is the pictures, which come off the page and come to life.
